A 30 year- old teacher accused of having an affair with his 17 year- old student will probably not be prosecuted criminally.
Cypress Bay marketing teacher Alex Anninos, 30, met the 17 year- old student with whom he had an affair at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in August. According to police investigators, the pair had sex at least 10 times over the next six months, at Anninos’ home.
However, the student, who says that she is “in love,” is unwilling to press charges against the teacher. She has refused to give a statement, and has said that she will not testify in court. According to police spokesman Hugh Graf, she “is still not eager to prosecute and is not being cooperative with investigators.”
Anninos resigned from his teaching position on Monday. He has worked there since 2003, when he was hired as a security monitor. The Florida Department is conducting an investigation that will probably result in a revocation of Anninos’ license. If this happens, he will be entered into a state and national database for school districts to consult before they hire teachers.
Anninos could, if the student were to cooperate, be charged with a second- degree felony. Under Florida law, it is illegal for someone who is 24 years old to have sex with someone who is 17 years old. |
