Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to Hold Public Hearings 2006-02-01
Many Pennsylvania residents have been waiting for the opportunity to throw in their two cents about the 14 slots casinos that will soon come to the state.
Now, scores of concerned citizens will get their chance to sound off. Yesterday, state gambling regulators announced plans for a series of public hearings around the state in April and May of this year. Anyone may testify, but those who wish to do so much submit a special form to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, available on the organization’s website.
The first casino hearing will take place in Gettysburg, which is one of the planned casino sites. Scores of historical preservation advocates and other culture- minded Americans oppose the proposal to build a casino just miles from the site of one of the most important American Civil War battles. Hearings will also take place in Harrisburg, Lancaster, Uniontown, and Lehigh Valley, among other sites.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has not announced when it will begin to issue casino licenses, but, according to most accounts, this could not occur before August at the very earliest.
