A popular college scholarship in Santa Fe, New Mexico now seems to fall short, because of the state lottery. It seems that the program faces a potential financial strain in the next several years because projected revenue from the state lottery. It seems that this isn’t keeping pace with student demand for the scholarships, in the wake of rising tuition costs. At least this was what was told to lawmakers on Thursday, by members of the state lottery.
The latest projections could disrupt offers by Gov. Bill Richardson and other lawmakers. These politicians have advocated expanding student eligibility for the scholarships, which would allow more New Mexicans to attend college. However the revenue from the lottery makes it hard for everyone to be able to achieve scholarships. |
