An Islamic sharia court in Indonesia's Aceh province has recently tried, and sentenced four women caught gambling. Since Indonesia is a country, who has adapted some of Islam’s more strict laws, the women are facing a harsh punishment. The ruling; a public lashing.
The flogging will be ordered four women for gambling offences. The women were allegedly catch playing cards for small change. It will be the first flogging involving women.
The public lashing is the second since the adaptation of this law. In May, seven men also found guilty of card play, and flogged in the same fashion. Here men and women are equal in punishment.
Aceh has slowly started to implement some of the religious Islamic laws, and traditions. They hold dear to the main ones that all Muslims adhere to. These laws include dress code, praying five times a day, fasting, and alms-giving. |
