The Mississippi Coast may not have hurt by Hurricane Dennis, but the effects on its casinos were devastating. Casinos were closed down, just when the busy weekend began, losing significant profits. This all occurred on the weekend of July 10th.
They closed on that Saturday afternoon, and reopened on the following Monday morning. Coast revenue for the month was around $102.3 million. July’s busy weekend in 2004 was at $113.7 million. This year’s revenue was to surpass, that number significantly of 2004. This was reported as one of the worst July’s since 1998, when Beau Rivage and Imperial Palace opened.
Total revenues for casinos along the Mississippi River in July were at a total of $136.3 million, opposed to last year's $134.8 million. The statewide total dropped to $238.6 million, from last July's $248.5 million. A few days makes all the difference in the heat of the summer. |
