Plans to build a casino in Park City, Kansas, has not come through yet. Sedgwick County commissioner put off voting on a casino referendum for an unspecified period of time. Two local legislators required that the number of people that actually support casinos in the county, be counted before anything could take place.
Five county commissioners felt that residents needed to have a say. However when Rep. Brenda Landwehr, R-Wichita, as well as eight other legislators, decided this was a state matter not a country one, things were in better perspective. Wichita Mayor Carlos Mayans did not feel this issue was important enough for city's money to be spent. City councils are the only ones, who believe otherwise, meaning that residents should decide. Of course at the moment it is a state matter, and as such, no plans have gone through. |
