Case in Iowa Catches Gambling Politician. 2005-09-11
In Iowa, an Omaha politician has pleaded guilty to trespassing at a casino. The casino in question is the Council Bluffs casino. The politician pleaded guilty, and promised to stay away from all casinos in the state of Iowa.
The politician, Brenda Council, ran for mayor twice in the 1990s. She recently signed a pledge, like many others. She signed a pledge, by people who want to stop their gambling habits.
Council was cited, when she was found at the casino at 2:45 am on August 31st. She was instructed to pay a $100 fine for misdemeanor criminal trespassing. Assistant City Attorney Don Bauermeister says Council signed the pledge on July 8th, before her casino experience. Then she had voluntarily banned herself from her state’s casinos, because she has an addictive problem. On August 10th, Council was warned by Harrah's staff. By August 31st a security in a cashier's area at Bluffs Run spotted her, and she was cited for trespassing.
On here behalf, she was documented by the Omaha World-Herald by saying that she signed the ban for her own personal reasons, and on the appeals of her family, and friends. Despite the ban, she denies she has a problem.
