Texans for Tourism, a tourist organization, will meet in Austin to present a campaign to expand gambling in Texas. Organizer Ricky Knox hopes that there will be legalization of video lottery terminals, at least to start. The meeting will include representatives of Landry’s Restaurants and Gulf Greyhound Park.
Knox’s letter on the matter included his intention to prepare information for the 2007 session of the Texas Legislature. Those, who will come to the meeting aren’t exactly part of the deal in backing Knox, but will be there to listen. Knox hopes afterwards they will join in.
Knox, who is known for the 1997 termination of the $23 million contract between Texas Lottery and a company named GTECH Corp., will have to convince those same people why further gambling is a good idea. It will be a tough challenge, but he already will have some established gambling owners at the meeting. This includes Native American tribes, horse and dog track owners, and other gaming corporations. |
