In New Zealand, the wife of a Rotorua policeman finally has been sentenced. The woman was sentenced to community work after pleading guilty to stealing money from her employer. Kim Haumaha (39) was the woman caught in this case.
Mrs. Haumaha was sentenced to150 hours community work for her theft crime. She stole around $24,000 from the Westpac Bank. The money was recovered, after she was caught.
Mrs. Haumaha apparently had a severe gambling addiction, which led her to the crime. She stated in court that she did so because she was suffering from loneliness. Gambling made her feel better, but she didn’t have the money to back her addiction.
Judge Geoghan, sympathetic to the wife of an officer of the law said he took into consideration the case, and the person. In sentencing her, he claimed he felt her problem could be solved. Haumaha will recover and get help, he seems to believe. |
