Soccer referees have been always accused of making bad calls in favor of the other team. Most occasions it is just a bad referee making the call, or a disgruntle fan blaming the call. Recently in Brazil that is not so simple, real charges have been put up in one particular case.
This past week, a Brazilian soccer referee was accused. Referee Edilson Pereira de Carvalho has been accused of accepting bribes to fix games. Some say he fixed nearly a dozen games a fee of $6,000 a match. Until the end of a police investigation Carvalho has been suspended.
In the same news, another referee from a smaller class league of the sport has also been accused in a different case. If they are found guilty, especially Carvalho chances are that all games he participated in will be played over, Brazilian soccer officials say. |
