New Regulations for Indian Casinos 2006-05-21
A draft of new licensing regulations has been released by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
The new regulations state that Indian casinos will have to verify that their establishments are operating within the parameters of the law every year in a new rule set out by the N.I.G.C.
On Friday the N.I.G.C. Chairman Phil Hogan released a draft of the proposal, for the gaming facilities to review and has given a window of opportunity until the 30th June for any opinions to be put forward.
Included in the proposal, it states that the tribes will have to submit a license for every class II or class III casino they operate. Other rules state that the validity of the land that the gaming facility is on must be proven. The law states that the land must be classed as 'Indian lands' as defined by the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
The majority of the casinos that are in operation are situated legally on Indian reserves but there is a question of validity concerning how some of the lands may have been acquired.
