Two Springfield men have now been convicted in federal court. The charges were for conspiracy and conducting an illegal gambling business. Springfield took this case quite seriously.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan; Kenneth W. Kaiser, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New England; Rebecca A. Sparkman, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, and Commissioner William Fitchet of the Springfield Police Department, all made public statements announcing that David Cecchetell, 37, of Springfield, and Louis Naioleari, 43, of Springfield, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge. Their plea to Judge Michael A. Ponsor was Conspiracy and Conducting an Illegal Gambling Business. Their business accepted $2,000 a day in bets. Judge Ponsor said both men could each face up to 5 years' imprisonment, and a $250,000 fine. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Criminal Investigation and the Springfield Police Department.
