Romulus Mayor Alan Lambert vowed '1300 New Jobs' last week after it was agreed that a casino and hotel opposite a proposed racetrack. During a news conference on the issue Chairman Kenneth Meshigaud of the Hannahville Indian Community said the 25-acre property would include a 200-room hotel, restaurants, retail stores and a casino. The casino is expected to have 2,400 slot machines and 90 other gaming tables.
The tribe, near Escanaba, hope to apply to the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs to have Romulus declared. If granted, there would be gaming on the property, said Chris DeWitt, Spokesman for the Hannahville Community of Potawatomi Indians. In June, a coalition of four tribes announced they were interested in this site. Now, only Hannahville is involved. |
