National Gambling Board Chief Executive Officer Thibedi Majake was questioned by MPs over his salary, which was seemingly higher than his colleges. During the Gambling Board's annual report presentation to the Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee, Mr. Majake let if be known that R800 000 annually. Majake's income looks to be equivalent to the country’s president.
In his own defense Mr. Majake said it was unfair to compare his salary to anyone's salary, including head of state. The presidents based salary might be that, but he earns much more that him. He also told the committee about the work being done by the board in areas such as the rehabilitation of habitual gamblers, economic changes, and the social change for the poor.
Mr. Majake's scandal comes at a time when the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, is calling for a review of certain municipal managers' salaries. No one knows why that is, but after finding this out, she continues to do so. This is just one example of something that smells fishy. |
