Theo Epstein Offered Gambling Job. 2005-11-03
Theo Epstein may be out of a job, but plenty are ready to hire him already. This may be just the change of scenery he needs. Of course the places wanted to hire him are Internet gambling sites.
The former Red Sox General Manager may become a switch hitter from Baseball to gambling. The offer is at least on the table from the head of an Internet company. Robert Evens, head of a Costa Rican company, already faxed Epstein this offer.
They are prepared to pay Epstein as much as $2 million a year to help the on-line gambling company set the odds for Major League baseball games. Right now that is a hot item for betting. They additionally offered him a 6,000 square-foot mansion in the mountains of Costa Rica. This is a place with a running stream, and sports facilities like a soccer field, and tennis court etc., and a string of servants.
Epstein has nothing to say on this issue as of this time. It sounds wonderful, but will the 31-year old take the offer. People are places their bets on this already.
The same Internet gambling operation isn’t so sure. In case Epstein decides not to take the offer, there is already a bet that he will remain in sports, particularly baseball. If so no one would be so disappointed. Odds that he will come to the company are small, but does that mean they should make the bet?
