Casino Workers Charged In Case. 2005-11-07
The U.S. Attorney's Office has charged six former casino employees. The charge was filing phony paperwork, which they paid jackpot winners from their own pockets. The reason for the paperwork was to get reimbursed for jackpots they never paid out to customers.
Roger S. Burnette, 32, of Naytahwaush, Minn., was considered the mastermind to the plot. The plot was supposedly carried out between April 2002 and December 2002. Before that Burnette worked in other casinos, such as the Mahnomen in the same state.
It was reported that Burnette apparently taught a casino slot worker how to falsify jackpot fill slips. Some of the money, that was falsified, was given in percentage to Burnette. Due to the reports, Burnette has been charged with conspiracy and aiding and abetting an embezzlement ring.
The five technicians in on the scam were; Jesse S. Fairbanks, 23, of Twin Valley; Lace Thompson, 23, of Detroit Lakes; Shallah M. Washington, 23, of Cass Lake; and Todd M. Brault, 26., and Brunettes’ sister, Jennifer M. Burnette, 27, of Fosston. All will be dealt with, and charged accordingly. Right now is the time for an investigation, and then a case.
