2006-05-28 |
Las Vegas Sands Corp. successfully out bid 18 other groups including MGM and Harrah's to win the tender to build the Super Casino planned in Singapore. The winning bid of $3.16 billion topples the Wynn Las Vegas as the most expensive Casino ever built.
The casino will be built on 50.9 acres of waterfront site called Marina Bay, approximate to the financial district and will house approximately 2,500 gaming machines and is expected to generate 10,000 jobs.
In an effort to make sure that gambling doesn't dominate the area the casino will not be allowed to occupy more than 5.5% of the total resort area, and a number of other attractions will be built, including a museum, gallery and theatre.
A second casino resort will follow on the island of Sentosa.
According to authorities it is estimated that both resorts will increase Singapore's gross domestic product by $2.5 billion in the year 2015 and create 35,000 jobs.
The Sands Corp expects to open the Marina Bay casino in 2009.
