Mayor Laurence Leyens confirmed that the Pot of Gold casino/hotel complex, developed by Magnolia Hill Resort, will not get his vote for the casino project. He said this will no happen unless plans for the current casino are changed. A city board meeting on the matter will take place December 5th.
The Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals gave Magnolia Hill Resort and Pot of Gold approval already. They approved a $48 million casino/hotel in a 3-2 vote. However, zoning approval will be decided when they face a bigger company. Then they will be subject to an appeal before the city board, by residents whose homes face this property.
The project does seemingly have a lot of potential. It is estimated that it could create 400-500 jobs. Magnolia Resort and Pot of Gold, if approved, would be the sixth casino resort in Vicksburg, Mississippi. |
