Gaming Board and Pennsylvania. 2005-11-29
Early November, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board made some changes. Their changes included the release of regulations under which casino license holders across the state could hold interest up to 33% of any venue. Pennsylvania currently holds 13 gaming venues. Some industry experts say that it wasn’t the favor of the issue, but the favoring of big guns like Harrah’s.
Harrah's has interest in a casino in Station Square. They would like to keep their 50% ownership in a proposed racetrack and slots facility. This facility is currently under construction in Chester, Delaware County.
Harrahs may not be the only operator, which could have affected by the Board's decision. Of course these places have not been named, or proved. The new regulation will allow up to a third of slot casinos around Pennsylvania.
Some businesses oppose the ruling. The State’s Thoroughbred Horsemen Association fears all this change could lead towards a monopolization of the market in Pennsylvania. They fear that their seven racetracks could fall victim to all this. The association officials are pushing the point that racetrack casino licensees should be forbidden. The board disregarded this though.
