Alabama Student Becomes Youngest Poker Finalist 2006-06-19
An Alabama college student has become the youngest ever poker player to make the final in the World Series of Poker.
Shannon Shorr reached the No Limit Circuit Event final table at Harrah's casino in Lake Tahoe at the weekend and then went on to make the final table in another No Limit event the next day. This achievement makes him the youngest player to make two final tables in a row and netted him a tidy $40,000.
Mr Shorr began playing poker in online casinos and honed his skills to begin a successful career at the legal age of 21.
Now he is legal (he turned 21 on June 7th) Mr Shorr can begin to compete in U.S. competitions. Up until this point, Mr Shorr had been playing in overseas competitions, where the legal age ranges between 18 and 20. He had already accumulated close to $250,000 playing in the Aussie Millions Championship in Melbourne Australia and has travelled to places such as Madrid, Vienna and the Bahamas.
Mr Shorr will be moving to Las Vegas and will be competing in the prestigious World Series of Poker Main Event taking place later this year in the Rio Casino and Resort.
