Landry's Restaurants has talked about bringing a Golden Nugget Casino to Biloxi, Miss., but that was put to rest this week. The rejection came from Mississippi’s city elected leaders. The rejection came after the lease to the land could not be decided on of an appropriate price. Apparently what was offered was not enough to build a project for how they wanted it to be.
The City Council is now looking at another bidder. They seem to turn to Biloxi-based Isle of Capri to develop a casino there. Their offer needs to be significantly more for the project to work.
Landry's had offered to pay the city $2.5 million. Council members believed that the project would not work a penny under $3.3 million. It is a shame it didn’t go through, but it wasn’t enough money.
If the project had gone through, The Golden Nugget would have been the first new casino since Hurricane Katrina hit. Now citizens will have to wait. The casino needs to be rebuilt, but also redesigned to work for Mississippi, and Laudrys is not the one to do that. |
